1193-1253 St. Clare of Assisi a Holy Woman and Companion of St. Francis of Assisi is known for her compassion for the sick. She would lay her hands over the ill person and say a prayer resulting in their regaining health. There are many stories by eye-witnesses as to her care and concern for her sisters, the friars and the people of the surrounding area.
Her gentleness can be seen in the story of her getting up at night to cover the sisters to keep them from the cold. Her humility can be seen in the simple stories of those brought to her for blessing, her sisters, neighbors, and especially children. She had a keen awareness of what others needed, and provided that with quiet care. Though living a cloistered and secluded life, her reputation spread.
The people of Assisi claimed her as their "saint". Today she is an example of selfless generosity, care who restored health and healing to many people.
